WATERCOLOUR ART RENDERING

Turn ideas into expressive watercolour artworks through colour, composition and your own visual style.

About the

Course

Watercolour is more than learning how to mix paint or control a brush. Great artwork comes from understanding how colour, composition, form and visual style work together to create a particular feeling and connect with an audience.

In this hands-on course, you'll learn the fundamentals of watercolour while exploring the principles behind effective visual design. You'll work from creative briefs and visual references, study different aesthetic styles, experiment with colour and composition, and gradually develop artworks that reflect your own individual style.

Across the course, you'll move through the complete creative process, from interpreting a brief and developing an artistic direction, to rendering your artwork and reviewing how effectively your final piece communicates its intended aesthetic.

No prior watercolour or art experience is required.

What you’ll learn in this course:

  • Understand how to interpret a creative brief and translate it into a visual direction
  • Explore different art movements, aesthetics and visual styles for creative inspiration
  • Build visual references and moodboards to guide an artwork
  • Learn essential watercolour techniques including washes, blending, layering, colour mixing and brush control
