What do you do at Hustle?

M: Hey there, name is Moses.

I am a Marcomm trainer and I have been training since 2016.

These are just a few of the many things I do!

What is Digital Marketing?

Tell me more about your industy!

M: To me, digital marketing is the art and science of creating interest with the purpose of engaging people, a relevant target audience in hopes of inspiring or promoting solutions to a problem from an online service or product that you have.

M: This is done through online channels like search engines, social media, email, and websites to promote products or services.

It encompasses various techniques such as search engine optimisation (SEO), pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, social media marketing, content marketing, email marketing, affiliate marketing, and influencer marketing.

How does Traditional Marketing differ from Digital Marketing?

M: Traditional marketing encompasses conventional strategies employed by businesses to promote their products or services before the digital age.

This means using offline channels such as print advertising, newspapers, magazines, brochures or broadcast advertising to reach potential customers.

The main difference between traditional marketing and digital marketing is that traditional marketing is more location sensitive.

Traditional marketing is more suitable if you have a location based promotion, like a new shop opening.

But if not, then digital marketing is more accessible with a larger reach.

Anyone can shop on online platforms like Shopee and Lazada, and this helps businesses find leads from anywhere and anytime.

I heard you used to work with Facebook. What did you do there?

M: I was their in-house trainer for advertising and PR, so my job was to train their marketing teams in Asia Pacific about advertising.

This includes methods on how to improve their digital marketing strategies dollar on dollar for a higher return of investments.

I also advise on PR strategies, such as how to answer community moderations and questions from the public.

It helps them position themselves in a way that when people read the answer, it is more likely to be accepted.

What is the Role of Social Media in Digital Marketing?

M: Social media platforms can help digital marketers extend their outreach.

Digital marketing looks to personalise content and entertain at the same time.

So if I am looking to connect with people, I’ll be on Instagram.

If I’m looking to be entertained, I’ll be on TikTok.

And if I’m looking for information, I will be on Google.

The good thing about digital marketing is that everything is at the palm of your hand.

How can small businesses make use of Digital Marketing?

M: The big concern for small businesses is that they don’t have a big budget for advertising.

They rely on smaller profits so they don’t have the budget to buy big banner spaces at the bus stop or print advertisements on the newspapers.

They have to rely on social media platforms like WhatsApp, TikTok and Instagram to connect with people and sell their solutions.

This makes social media platforms especially crucial for small businesses looking to improve outreach.

Viewers want a product that is personalised and relatable

– Trainer Moses

What are the current Digital Marketing strategies in 2023?

M: A key trend in digital marketing in 2023 is the shift towards dynamic content, which includes videos and interactive media.

You can think of Carousell as an example.

Previously, digital marketing was mainly about writing blogs or taking pictures.

Now, we see an increasing emphasis on viewers’ entertainment, for example, in shopping, information and education.

Viewers want to be entertained, but more importantly, when people buy a product or service, they are not only looking for the best product but also a product that is relatable and personalised.

For example, a potential buyer may think that a blazer looks good but does not find it relevant or suitable.

2023 is all about keeping viewers entertained and informed.

What should Digital Marketers look out for in 2024.

M: Definitely artificial intelligence.

It is something that everyone should get on board.

It is not going to take over our jobs, but it will pose a threat to those who are unable to make use of it.

Just recently, I created a video of a horse galloping in the desert under the sunset, and I did it in 1 minute thanks to AI.

Digital marketers need to leverage the power of AI moving forward to improve viewers’ engagement.

Conclusions

Embracing dynamic content and harnessing the power of artificial intelligence are pivotal for success in 2024.
